NW Natural currently takes interns to work in the Integrity Management and Station Design Engineering teams.
Integrity's role is fundamentally to maintain the integrity of our infrastructure. The Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR 192) has extensive requirements NW Natural must follow to ensure safe and reliable service to our customers. Interns working with Integrity will work on a wide variety of projects that may include: planning and assisting with in-line inspection runs (also known as pigging), reviewing material certifications, researching and presenting new products to NW Natural, updating/writing new internal material specifications/standards/procedures, writing gas operation procedures to be performed by field crews, and designing pipeline infrastructure projects.
Station Design helps maintain existing regulators/reliefs/meter-sets. They also design new above-ground stations and manage projects to maintain existing stations. Interns working with Station Design will work on projects that may include: assisting with projects to upgrade or maintain regulator stations, researching and presenting new products to NW Natural, updating/writing new internal material specifications/standards/procedures, writing gas operation procedures to be performed by field crews, and designing pipeline infrastructure projects.
Interns working with NW Natural will leave with a strong understanding of how energy infrastucture works and will know what it's like to work at a utility.
